BBC - Doctor Who - 10 hours 11 min ago
Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman and Steven Moffat arrived at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York yesterday (Monday 20 May) to pick up an Institutional Peabody Award for Doctor Who. But that's not the only good news on the awards front - Doctor Who has also been nominated in the Best Drama Series category in the TVChoice Awards 2013.
The prestigious George Foster Peabody Awards celebrate excellence in radio and television broadcasting and is one of the highest honours in television. The awarding committee described the show as:
"Seemingly immortal, 50-years-old and still running, this engaging, imaginative sci-fi/fantasy series is awarded an Institutional Peabody for evolving with technology and the times like nothing else in the known television universe".
The Peabody Award is voted for by a panel of distinguished academics, television critics, industry practitioners and experts in culture and the arts. The TVChoice awards are voted for by you, the audience. Now in its 17th year honouring TV's most popular stars and shows, you can back your favourites by voting online or via the magazine forms.
The TV Choice Awards will take place on Monday 9 September so hopefully Matt and Jenna will have another trophy to pick up! Good luck to all the nominees!

Quote of the Day....DOCTOR: From the beginning, she was impossible. The impossible girl. I met her in the Dalek Asylum. Never saw her face, and she died. I met her again in Victorian London, and she died. Saved my life both times, by giving her own. But now she's back and we're running together, and she's perfect. Perfect in every way for me. Except she can't remember that we ever met. Clara. My Clara. Always brave, always funny, always exactly what I need. Perfect. Too perfect. Get used to not knowing. I thought I never would. I was wrong. I know who Clara Oswald is. I know how she came to be in my life, and I know what she will always mean. I found out the day we went to Trenzelor. A Message from Steven Moffat
BBC - Doctor Who - Sat, 05/18/2013 - 2:57pm
A little earlier, Doctor Who’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, gave this thank you message…
Well that was all a bit Keystone Cops, wasn't it? Our biggest surprise, our most secret episode, a revelation about the Doctor that changes everything...
... and we'd have got away with it too, if we hadn't accidentally sent Blu Ray copies of Name Of The Doctor to 210 Doctor Who fans in America.
Erm - security-wise, that's not GOOD, is it? I mean, it's not top notch, it's hard to defend as professional level, hard-line secrecy.
My favourite fact is that they're BLU RAYS. Listen, we don't just leak any old rubbish, we leak in high def. 1080p or nothing, that's us. Every last pixel in beautifully rendered detail. It's like getting caught extra naked.
But here's the thing. Never mind us blundering fools, check out the fans. 210 of them, with the top secret episode in their grasp - and because we asked nicely, they didn't breathe a word. Not one. Even Doctor Who websites have been closing their comments sections, just in case anyone blurts. I'm gobsmacked. I'm impressed. Actually, I'm humbled. And we are all very grateful.
Now you might be thinking, what does all this matter? It's a plot development in the mad old fantasy world of Doctor Who, why is that important? Well of course, it's not important, and in the scheme of things, it doesn't matter at all. Just as it doesn't matter when you're telling a joke, and some idiot shouts out the punchline before you finish. It's irritating, that's all. It's bad manners.
Well no bad manners here! 210 Doctor Who fans kept the secret, and many, many more fans helped. I wish I could send you all flowers, but I don't know where you live (and given our record, you really shouldn't be sharing private information with us.) So instead, if we can get our act together - and I forgive you for thinking that's a BIG if - there will be a little video treat released later tonight.
10 plus 11 gives you…
That video is available to watch now!

Doctor Who: A New Series and More
BBC - Doctor Who - Sat, 05/18/2013 - 1:45pm
We’re delighted to confirm a new series of Doctor Who has been commissioned and the show’s lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat, has revealed he’s already plotting a brand new run of adventures for the Doctor.
But way before that hits our screens we have a huge amount to look forward to. Your calendars should already have a big red circle around 23 November because that’s when the TARDIS returns in the frankly Earth-shattering adventure that celebrates half a century of Doctor Who. This 3D special stars Matt Smith and Jenna Coleman with David Tennant and John Hurt, seen briefly at the end of The Name of the Doctor. Billie Piper returns alongside Jemma Redgrave, Joanna Page… and the Zygons!
If you can’t wait until then you can see special videos about the special – filming at the Tower of London and in Trafalgar Square. We’ve a new gallery for the 50th plus a news item on the cast.
Later this year the BBC also premieres An Adventure in Space and Time, the brilliant drama written by Mark Gatiss that looks at the genesis of Doctor Who. If this video location report is anything to go by, we’re in for a memorable insight into the show’s origins.
And given that this year’s Christmas Special will be rounding off such a spectacular year we’re sure it will kick off the Doctor’s next half century in style! But that’s not all. Big plans are being put in place that will well and truly celebrate the Doctor’s half-centenary. Make sure you check back for some exciting announcements!
In the meantime, this site will be updating regularly, bringing you the latest news, videos and much more. No-one should ever have to go a day without watching Doctor Who and you don’t need to! Check out the clips section where you’ll find a wealth of great moments from the show’s first 50 years. And if you fancy finding out more about the earliest Doctors, now’s your chance with A Beginner’s Guide to the Doctors.
Finally, don’t forget, you can stay one step ahead by following us on twitter - @bbcdoctorwho

A Beginner’s Guide to the Doctors
BBC - Doctor Who - Sat, 05/18/2013 - 1:43pm
As the Doctor himself said on Trenzalore, he’s had loads of bodies. That’s because the Doctor is a Time Lord, and Time Lords have the ability to regenerate their bodies when they’re worn out or dying. This means that his old body transforms into a new one, along with a new appearance and persona – a brand new Doctor! But underneath these surface changes, he’s still the same man, the same hero and adventurer.
The series finale gave us glimpses of many Doctors, including the very first - that was the white-haired figure that Clara spoke to at the beginning of the episode. We saw the ‘impossible girl’ interrupt him as he was about to steal a TARDIS, advising him to take the time machine that he still travels in today. The Second Doctor was the man wearing a big, furry coat and the Third was behind the wheel of his trusty old car, Bessie. It’s clear that every Doctor has a distinctive look – tall and handsome, short and impish, old, young… All different! But what’s more exciting is their unique personalities and eccentricities - you can read more by following the links below. You’ll see that the Doctor has always been a hero, but in different ways in different times.
The guide below shows the Doctors - click on any of them and you’ll be taken to a page that gives you the low down on that particular Doctor. What they were like, who they travelled with and what caused them to regenerate. If you want to find out more, simply follow the links to their stories and you’ll discover some brilliant clips from their adventures, galleries, fact files and much more. We’ll be adding much more in the coming months, but for now, here’s a guide to the greatest hero of them all: The Doctor.

Quote of the Day....RIVER: Thanks.DOCTOR: For what?
RIVER: The usual. For coming when I call.
DOCTOR: Oh, that was you?
RIVER: You're doing a very good job, acting like you don't know me. I'm assuming there's a reason.
DOCTOR: A fairly good one, actually.
RIVER: Okay, shall we do diaries, then? Where are we this time? Er, going by your face, I'd say it's early days for you, yeah? So, er, crash of the Byzantium. Have we done that yet? Obviously ringing no bells. Right. Oh, picnic at Asgard. Have we done Asgard yet? Obviously not. Blimey, very early days, then. Whoo, life with a time traveller. Never knew it could be such hard work. Look at you. Oh, you're young.
DOCTOR: I'm really not, you know.
RIVER: No, but you are. Your eyes. You're younger than I've ever seen you.
DOCTOR: You've seen me before, then?

Quote of the Day....DOCTOR: No, Ben. We can't go yet.BEN: Well, why not? They don't want us here.
DOCTOR: Because there is something evil here and we must stay.
HOBSON: Evil? Don't be daft.
DOCTOR: Evil is what I meant. There are some corners of the universe which have bred the most terrible things. Things which act against everything that we believe in. They must be fought. This disease, for instance. It isn't really a disease at all, but I can help you with it. You'll see. I'll find the cause for you. BAFTA Celebrates 50 Years of Doctor Who

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) will celebrate half a century of Doctor Who during tonight’s prestigious British Academy Television Awards.
Jenna Coleman (Clara) will present one of the evening’s awards and a celebratory video montage featuring moments from the show’s history will be included as part of the ceremony.
Amanda Berry OBE, Chief Executive of BAFTA, said, ‘There are only a handful of programmes that have the quality and longevity of Doctor Who and the ability to put the nation on their sofas – or indeed behind them – year after year. BAFTA raises a toast to Doctor Who on its 50th birthday this year.’
Steven Moffat, Doctor Who’s lead writer and executive producer, commented, ‘This is a massive and exciting year for Doctor Who, so I'm thrilled that BAFTA are including a special tribute to the show. So thrilled, in fact, we're sending the Doctor's best friend, Jenna Coleman, to present an award. We're also sending the Doctor’s worst enemy, the Daleks, to exterminate lots of innocent people. Sorry, it's just what they do. Let us know if it's a Health and Safety issue.’
The awards ceremony will be hosted by Graham Norton at the Royal Festival Hall, London, and broadcast on BBC One at 8pm tonight (Sunday, 12 May).

Nightmare and More!
BBC - Doctor Who - Fri, 05/10/2013 - 5:45am
We’ve a massive weekend ahead with the return of the Cybermen in Nightmare in Silver on BBC One, tomorrow (Saturday) at 7pm.
The episode is written by the brilliant Neil Gaiman and is partly set in Hedgewick’s World of Wonders - once the greatest theme park in the galaxy, but now the dilapidated home to a shabby showman, a dysfunctional army platoon and the charismatic Porridge. When the Doctor, Clara, Artie and Angie arrive, the last thing they expect is the re-emergence of one of the Time Lord’s oldest foes. But the Cybermen are back… faster and more fearsome than ever!
It’s an episode full of fantastic new characters, humour, wild situations, scares and some truly awesome moments with the Cybermen…
Then, as the end titles roll and we all look ahead to the series finale, you can enjoy the new prequel to The Name of the Doctor, here on this site or via Red Button. Entitled She Said, He Said and written by Steven Moffat it’s the perfect way to get ready for another epic episode!
We’ll also have a fascinating look behind the scenes of Nightmare in Silver featuring Matt Smith and Neil Gaiman plus the ‘Next Time’ trailer for The Name of the Doctor which you’ll want to watch again and again… There’ll be two galleries of stunning production artwork, storyboard galleries and a behind the scenes gallery as well as our latest quiz and a fact file for the return of the Cybermen in the Fourth Dimension. All that - and one or two surprises – will be available right after tomorrow’s episode finishes.
But if you can’t wait, why not check out clips, the trailer and an introduction to Nightmare in Silver, visit the gallery of images from the adventure, read our exclusive interview with Neil Gaiman or remind yourself of just what the Doctor will be up against tomorrow…
